PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Horror Comic Book Haunts The Shelves.

This May, an old classic horror film is going to come back in the form of a comic book, with a new artist and a new artistic visual experience to impress horror theme lovers! This is the first time that a local classic horror film is brought back and turned into a comic book with special features.

Although Artist He Jingni is new to the comic scene, she is ready to unveil her first ever comic book to the fans of horror! The story of the comic is adapted from the Singaporean movie <The Maid> (2005) directed by Kelvin Tong.

Here’s a summary of the comic: During the Chinese Seventh Month, the gates of hell open and spiritual forces are set loose upon the unsuspecting world. Hailing from a small village in the Philippines, 18-year-old Rosa Dimaano arrives in Singapore on the first day of the Seventh Month to work as a domestic maid. Her employers, the elderly Mrs.Teo, appear kind-hearted and sympathetic. While Rosa is cleaning the house, things start going seriously amiss. Rosa glimpses strange apparitions at night and also has vivid nightmares. She finds out that there was a maid two years before her called Esther. That is when Rosa begins to suspect things are seriously wrong.

“This is the first time I tried to draw a horror comic, it is a very challenging and exciting project to me. Of course, during the production, I have met many problems and issues at many times, but thanks to all the people who helped me a lot during this journey, without their advices and encouragements my comic won’t be finished. And now that I am pleased with my work, it is ready to be presented to my audiences!

During the process of printing design, I had carefully examined the type of paper and packaging ideas, in order to make my readers soak into the atmosphere and the setting of the book.

Apart from showing my work as a printed book, I challenged myself to combine Cinmegraph with After Effects animation techniques to present several pages and scenes of the book. I want to bring the user experience of the web comic and the traditional comic book together, as an innovation, to make my work different from others.”

For information about the promo event which will be held in next few months for the comic and how-to pre-order the <The Maid> comic book, please contact your local comic shop or visit our website make the online purchasing.
