“<Girl with a Pearl Earring>  (By JohannesVermeer, Oil on Canvas,1665)” is the inspiration of this work.

I drew the similar position, but different cloth and decoration. Since Asian hair was black, I needed to change the background by painting other colours on and use a lighter background. Also, because the people in Qing dynasty they liked decorating the work with abundant patterns and plants, so I drew a window with plants behind the character. I did the final piece by laptop and software, the colour of my work looked brighter and more vivid, but I thought it was acceptable because the colours of the cloths of Qing dynasty were bright and they were made of silk, which supposed to be lighter. 

 

We can say that this oil painting painted by Vermeer had shown us the definition of beauty at that time, their custom dressing, also the incredible drawing technique and colour painting skill. Base on this thought and regard it as my inspiration, I created a portrait of a woman of Qing dynasty, I wanted to show their dressing, to compare what's the differences between western and eastern countries.
